[PIO] Announcement of the CCAED on the 12th Meeting of the ICAO EUR Search and Rescue Task Force and the organization of an international workshop on

On Wednesday, October 4, the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (LRCRC) hosted the 12th Meeting of the Search and Rescue Team (SAR) of the International Civil Aviation Organization's regional office in Paris (ICAO EUR SAR TASK FORCE). This meeting, which takes place for the second time in Cyprus (the previous one in 2016), aims to harmonise all members of the Team with the procedures for the organisation and execution of SAR operations according to ICAO standards.

At the same time, and on the occasion of the organization of the 12th EUR SAR TF meeting, a SAR Workshop was held at the CSEED, on 5 and 6 October 2023, in cooperation with the regional office of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which included presentations by speakers with expertise in issues related to Airborne SAR, as well as the execution of an exercise, the scenario of which concerned the management of an air accident in a salt marsh, near Larnaca airport, for the management of which the application of SAR was required.E.S. "TEYKROS", with simultaneous mobilization of forces inside and outside the airport.

The workshop, which was attended by representatives from 34 countries from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as representatives of international organizations such as ICAO, EUROCONTROL, EUSPA, COSPAS - SARSAT, SAR International, The aim was to inform the participants on issues related to new operational procedures such as LADR (Location of an Aircraft Distress Repository), as well as on the use of advanced technology equipment (satellite systems, 2nd generation ELT beacons) for the benefit of all those in distress, in particular in aviation.

In parallel with the above and in the framework of the organization of the E-D Workshop, the CCAED, in cooperation with the managing company of HERMES Airports and the airlines TUS Airways and Cyprus Airways, organized an exercise at the arrivals of Larnaca Airport to test the procedures applied to inform and support the relatives of the passengers of the flight involved in the air accident.

Extremely important for the implementation of the Workshop but especially of the two exercises was the participation of the services outlined in the National Plan E-D "TEYKROS", namely the National Guard, the Police, the Fire Service, the Civil Aviation, the Nursing Services and Ambulance Service of the OCYPY, the Forestry Department, the Civil Defence, as well as voluntary groups that mainly participated in the exercise of supporting relatives.
