In connection with the Interior Minister's statements today about his Ministry's intention to directly award contracts to persons illegally occupying Turkish Cypriot (TC) properties in the Mackenzie area, thus legalizing illegal subleases and illegal occupation, our Service releases relevant letter, which we had forwarded on 25/08/2023 to the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees - Internally Displaced Persons - Missing Persons - Victims.
We again call on the Government to demonstrate the necessary will to crack down on illegalities and not to reward those who break the law, in a way that is not even compatible with existing legislation.
The Custodian should proceed to recover the T/C properties for which there is no legal lease contract and these should be granted following open and transparent procedures.
