In his statements to ANT1 today, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letibiotis referred to the presence of the Auditor General himself at the renovation works at the Presidential Palace and his alleged insistence to enter and inspect the bathroom and the President's bedroom.
Here are the true facts. During their presence in the area outside the President's office, where the accreditation of ambassadors and the assurances of dignitaries take place, one of our officials attempted to photograph some of the work that had been done. She was then verbally attacked by an official seconded to the Presidency, who asked her to delete the photograph. After that, the colleagues were asked to hand over their mobile phones.
The two officials then went upstairs with an escort to the upper floor where the work was being carried out, as had been agreed. The First Lady prohibited them from entering the areas where work had been carried out on the grounds that it was a private area. The colleagues left.
In the afternoon of the same day, the Auditor General contacted the President of the Republic and explained to him that this was a public work and that reasons of principle required that the visit/inspection be carried out since a precedent could not be set that a public work could be carried out and the officials of the Audit Office could not have access to it.

The President of the Republic agreed and recommended to the Auditor General that they be present during the visit to be carried out. The Auditor General indicated that he did not think this was appropriate, but the President of the Republic insisted. The Auditor General, out of respect for the President of the Republic, agreed.
The visit took place on 12 July 2023. Present from the Audit Office were the Auditor General, the Director of Technical Audit and the two officials who had attended the 6 July visit. The meeting was held in the room where the Cabinet meets. As soon as the President arrived at the venue, the Auditor General, in front of everyone, recommended that the two officials remain in the venue so that only the officials could go up to the first floor. The President of the Republic insisted that he and the Auditor General should also go up, which they did.
Our recommendation to the Government Spokesman is that before expressing himself in such a derogatory and insulting manner about a person, he should at least make sure that he is informed of the facts.
