The Advisory Committee for the Prevention and Combating of Violence in the Family (ACPCF), within the framework of its responsibilities for the training of professionals, as defined in Article 7 of the Family Violence (Prevention and Protection of Victims) Law of 2000 (L.119(I)/2000), successfully held the international specialized training "Safe & Together ModelTM CORE Training (4 Days)" with Ms. Nicola Douglas, UK Delivery Specialist, as trainer, on 10-13 June 2024 at Frederick University.

A representative of the Ministry of State for Social Welfare (MSW) delivered the welcome address, stressing the importance of these trainings, as well as the MSW's support to the whole effort.

Specifically, the training was attended by more than 40 frontline professionals[/B]

  1. Social Welfare Service Officers,
  2. Women's Home staff, and
  3. Children's Home staff.

The training was a successful follow up to the Scientific Workshop on "Safe & Together Model", held by the SEPCBO on 10 October 2023, with over 100 participants, coming from all stakeholders, including legal and legal service officers. The keynote speaker was Mr. David Mandel, international expert on domestic violence issues and Executive Director of the Safe & Together Institute, who presented the Model in detail and explained how it can be adapted to the needs of our country and each ministry/agency involved.

Through this specialized training, the participants:

  1. Gained knowledge in the use of good practice tools, such as "Mapping Perpetrators' Patterns" and "Multiple Pathways to Harm", which can be applied in assessing the risk and impact of violence on children, taking protective measures for victims, and making effective decisions in managing cases of domestic violence.
  1. They practiced interviewing perpetrators, adult victims and children through role-play and videos of the Safe & Together Model.
  1. Improved in identifying and documenting/reporting domestic violence cases through individual and group exercises.
  1. Discussed cases (case study examples) and applied the Safe & Together model to them.

As part of its legal responsibilities for training of professionals, the SEECBO aims to provide high quality training to the frontline professionals involved, offering up-to-date tools for the management of domestic violence cases.
