[PIO] Announcement by the Presidency of the Republic on the appointment by the UN Secretary General of an envoy for the Cyprus problem

The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Christodoulides welcomes with satisfaction the decision of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General Mr António Guterres to appoint Ms María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, former Foreign Minister of Colombia, as his personal envoy for the Cyprus problem.

From his first day in office, the President of the Republic has made it his goal to reactivate the international actor, especially the UN, to explore the prospect of resuming the talks from where they left off in 2017 in Crans-Montana.

President Christodoulides remains committed to continue working with a clear political will both to resume talks on the agreed basis and to conclude the talks by finding a solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of the UN resolutions and the principles and values of the European Union.
