The First Lady of the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs Philippa Karseras Christodoulides, extended a warm welcome to the wife of the Greek Prime Minister, Mrs Mareva Mitsotakis, who accompanied her husband to Cyprus on the occasion of the Cyprus-Greece-Israel Trilateral Summit in Nicosia.
The programme included a guided tour by Mrs. Titina Loizidou of the outlying area of Agios Kassianos-Chrysaliniotissa in the walled city of Nicosia, where historic churches, important examples of Nicosia's urban architecture, as well as monuments of various eras and cultures of Cyprus are located.
They also visited workshops of local women artists and talked with them about the traditional techniques of weaving and ceramics, as well as about the effort to evolve and promote them according to the modern needs of society.
The programme concluded with a visit to the temporary exhibition "Myths Revelation: Ariadne - Andromeda" at the Leventis Gallery.
Mrs Mitsotakis and her delegation were offered lunch by Mrs Karsera Christodoulides, in the room with the Cypriot collections kindly provided by the Leventis Foundation, with wives of government officials, political leaders, mayors and former First Ladies Andri Anastasiades and Fotini Papadopoulou.
Welcoming Mrs Mitsotakis, the First Lady expressed her warm thanks for her presence in Cyprus, noted that it was a pleasure to give her a taste of the history and culture of Cyprus and that she looked forward to future visits.
The First Lady underlined the fraternal relations between Cyprus and Greece based on their long-standing common history and culture and in a toast she wished prosperity for Greece and Cyprus and personally wished Mrs Mitsotakis health and strength.
For her part, Mrs Mitsotaki expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for the hospitality and the tour programme which included representative examples of Cypriot culture. It was the first time she had the opportunity to walk around Nicosia and see the line of confrontation, the outposts and the buffer zone.
On the occasion of Mrs Mitsotaki and Mrs Netanyahu's presence in Cyprus, the First Lady presented Mrs Mitsotaki with an engraving by artist Despo Priggi, while Mrs Netanyahu was presented with a fervolite brooch by artist Penelope Marathovounioti.
