The Ministry of Tourism, in the context of its efforts for the development of tourism in rural, mountainous and border areas, has created the Heartland of Legends (HoL) experiential route. This route passes through rural, mountainous and border areas and offers authentic experiences that bring visitors into contact with Cypriot nature, tradition and the Cypriot way of life.

The Deputy Ministry, as part of its actions to encourage visitation to the hinterland through this route, among many others, has created the online application "Dragon Game", which is a discovery game using Augmented Reality (AR). Users, after installing this app on their mobile phone, can discover "digital dragons" hiding in fountains in the villages of the Heartland of Legends.

The public can visit the 20 villages, with their distinctive fountains, open the app and scan the specific fountain. Through the app, a unique, digital dragon will appear. At the same time, a short story will unfold, highlighting traditions, tales, legends or unique local characteristics of each village.

The designs and the "dragons" are inspired by the unique works of the Cypriot engraver Hampi Tsangaris, winner of the Heritage Award / Europa Nostra.

The project was implemented in collaboration with the CYENS Centre of Excellence and the Hampi Engraving Museum and was co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
