The Ministry of Social Welfare was informed this morning of the discovery, by members of the United Nations, of an unaccompanied minor girl in an area of Athens. Social Welfare Services protocols were immediately activated and an Officer picked up the child, placing her in the care of Social Welfare Services.
The child is provided with all care and assistance services from the outset, and all appropriate measures are taken to protect her, with the involvement of all relevant professionals in decision-making concerning her.
The minor girl will remain under the responsibility and supervision of the Social Welfare Services for as long as necessary. The Social Welfare Services are in communication and coordination with the Cyprus Police and other competent authorities, making every effort to find solutions that meet the needs of the child, with the safeguarding of her best interests at the centre of their actions.
