In relation to the recent decision of the Cyprus Football Federation (CFF) to return fans of visiting teams to the stadiums during the new football season, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Police state the following:

As a measure, the ban on the movement of fans of visiting teams had had a positive effect in preventing serious incidents as they had occurred before this measure was implemented and which led to its imposition, without of course ignoring the fact that even after its implementation there were still several instances of delinquency.

The CMP has every right, as the organising authority of the league, to make this decision.

We, for our part, (the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Police) have an obligation to ensure the preservation of the physical integrity of fans, the protection of all kinds of property of third parties and, in general, the safe conduct of matches within the framework of order and security.

The Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Police will dutifully evaluate and take into account this decision of the CMP, in relation to any risks that may be involved, and will take their own actions, always in the context of strict compliance with the legislation in force, with the sole aim of ensuring the safety of genuine fans and the citizens of the Republic of Cyprus in general.
