The Ministry of Health announces that today, 26 December 2021:
- No patient deaths with COVID-19 as the final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 628.
- 162 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 74 are in serious condition. A proportion of 80.87% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 15 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.
- A total of 53,715 PCR and antigen rapid tests have been performed.
- 912 (positivity rate: 1.7%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 150,760.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
No deaths of patients with COVID-19 were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease remains 628, of which:
- 401 males (63.9%), and
- 227 females (36.1%).
The average age of deaths from the disease is 75.9 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 162 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 74 are in serious condition or in PICU.
Of the 74 patients in serious condition, 26 are intubated, 5 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) off ventilator and 43 in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 53,715 diagnoses performed, 4,535 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 49,180 by the antigen rapid test method, 912 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 22 cases from 2,639 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 63 cases out of 1,667 samples taken through private initiative.
- 21 cases out of 229 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 310 cases from 21,146 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 496 cases out of 28,034 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
