The Ministry of Health announces that today, 24 January 2022:
- 1 death was announced from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 713.
- 221 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 75 are in serious condition. A proportion of 70.59% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 22 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.
- A total of 130,466 PCR and antigen rapid tests have been performed.
- 2,815 (positivity rate: 2.16%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 238,773.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 1 death announced with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 was:
- A woman, aged 87 years, who died on 24 January at Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 713, of which:
- 447 males (62.7%), and
- 266 females (37.3%).
The average age of those who died from the disease is 76.1 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 221 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the inpatient units of the OCYPY, of which 75 are in serious condition or in PICU.
Of the 75 patients in serious condition, 30 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) off ventilator and 41 in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 130,466 diagnoses performed, 7,788 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 122,678 by the antigen rapid test, 2,815 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
35 cases from 467 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 52 cases out of 3,573 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 278 cases out of 3,034 samples taken through private initiative.
- 30 cases out of 335 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 1,608 cases from 68,691 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 808 cases out of 53,987 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
- 4 cases from 379 specimens obtained under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and screening of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
