The Ministry of Health announces that today, 11 January 2022:
- 4 people died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 665.
- 252 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 76 are in serious condition. A proportion of 76.2% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 20 post-COVID patients who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.
- A total of 105,376 tests have been performed to detect the disease by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test).
- 3,515 (positivity rate: 3.34%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 212,074.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 4 persons who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 were:
- A male, aged 55 years, who died on 11 January in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- A man, aged 88 years, who died on 10 January in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital, Nicosia.
- Woman, aged 53, who died on 10 January in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 84, who died on 10 January at Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 84, who died on 10 January at Nicosia General Hospital.
Consequently, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 665, of which:
- 417 males (62.7%), and
- 248 females (37.3%).
The average age of those who died from the disease is 75.9 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 252 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the inpatient units of the OCYPY, of which 76 are in serious condition or in PICU.
Of the 76 patients in serious condition, 24 are intubated, 5 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit outside of a ventilator, and 47 are in an Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 105,376 diagnoses performed, 12,074 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 93,302 by the antigen rapid test, 3,515 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 266 cases from 2,270 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 51 cases out of 2,711 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 705 cases out of 6,476 samples taken through private initiative.
- 55 cases out of 451 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 1,676 cases from 57,087 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 754 cases out of 36,215 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
- 8 cases from 166 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and screening of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
