On the occasion of an article published by the newspaper "Haravgi" dated 16.9.2023 and entitled "the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (MoEEB) tricked employees and employers in the Industrial Area of Agios Athanasios", the MoEEB clarifies that this does not correspond to reality.
Specifically, with regard to the allegation about the refusal of the Ministry to grant additional space for the expansion of an existing kindergarten within the Industrial Area, it is noted that officials of the Ministry visited, on their own initiative, the kindergarten on 15.9.2023 and urged Officials of the Municipality who accompanied them to formally submit a request for the allocation of additional space should they so desire, as well as to exempt the Municipality from paying rent for the use of the space.
It is stressed that the space where the nursery has recently been erected is within the said Industrial Area and has been granted to the Municipality of Agios Athanasios by the YEEB.
In addition, the publication incorrectly states that the Ministry responded by withdrawing the offer of the space, even though some planning had been done by the Association and a study had been submitted. To set the record straight, it is pointed out that architectural plans had been submitted by the Association, of which, as explained to its President at a private meeting on 7.4.2022 with the former Minister of VEB and the Director General of the Ministry, it was not feasible to proceed for securing a building permit, as the development involved the creation of a small shopping centre, which was not in line with the offer to lease the site in question and the provisions of the Regulations governing the operation of Industrial Areas. A letter dated 7.6.2022 was forwarded to the Chairman of the Association requesting that the development be redesigned. The President of the Association by letter dated 14.7.2022 informed the Ministry that he will submit a revised draft of the proposed development. A year later and since nothing had been submitted by them, the Ministry, by its letter dated 25.7.2023, has proceeded to withdraw the site, informing the interested parties that under the new practice an area of about 3,000 sq.m. may be allotted to them, if they so desire.
Therefore, what is stated in the publication in question is a misrepresentation and distortion of the facts.
