[PIO] Announcement by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth for the launch of the 2024 Summer Public Schools

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY) announces the launch of the "Summer Public Schools" programme. A long-standing objective of the Summer Schools is to offer opportunities for learning and creative activities, especially to children from vulnerable groups of the population.

Taking into account the needs of society, the Ministry of Education and Science continues this year to extend the opening hours of the Summer Schools until 16:00. In addition, during the operation of the DSCs, the Greek language learning programme will continue to be offered to children with an immigrant biography.

The DSC programme is offered free of charge to all children.

The DSC programme is offered free of charge to all children. Parents contribute financially only to cover the cost of feeding the children who have chosen to attend the afternoon zone of the T.D.S.

This year 58 schools will operate as T.D.S., of which 37 Primary Schools and 21 Kindergartens, covering all five provinces of Cyprus, will operate as T.D.S.

This year 58 schools, including 37 Primary Schools and 21 Kindergartens, will operate as T.D.S. The period of operation is from 25 June 2024 to 26 July 2024. In order to cover the needs for the operation of the D.D.S., teachers of primary, pre-primary and special education will be employed, while for the needs of special education children a number of school chaperones/assistants will be employed.

In the D.D.S. a very well organized educational program of creative activities is applied, which are interwoven with the interests and the different abilities and needs of the children.

The syllabus of the P.T.S. includes creative activities, such as: Visual Expression, Music, Theatre, Physical Education, Life Education, with themes related to the summer period, indoor and outdoor games, Puppetry, Literature/Library, etc.
