In relation to public statements and publications about the building facilities at the School for the Deaf, it is noted that:
- The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (MPSAN) has the sensitivity and gives priority to Special Schools, so that the children attending them are in a safe environment. He welcomes that the reports speak of excellent staff, which shows the sensitivity and attention that the Ministry gives to staffing the School for the Deaf. It also notes that the School for the Deaf is one of the first schools in which the Ministry has proceeded with an audit of the electrical installation and a certificate has been issued by the Department of Electromechanical Services.
- With regard to the allegation of lack of space, the Ministry recalls that within the School for the Deaf is a three-storey building, which is owned by the Deaf Welfare Council. The Deaf Welfare Council has decided that, due to building problems, this building will not be used.
- It also points out that the operation of the kindergarten on the premises of the School started 30 years ago, at the request of the Director of the School, in order to include children of pre-primary age who were attending the School for the Deaf. At that time there were many areas of the School that were not being used due to the integration of hearing impaired children into the Primary and Secondary Public Schools and the closure of the boarding school. The Egomi School Ephorate regularly proceeds to repair damage to these areas. The Ministry has, at the request of the School, proceeded to reduce the number of classes in the kindergarten in order to return a classroom to the School for the Deaf. At the same time, it is taking steps to move the kindergarten children to other premises.
- At the same time, regarding the allegation of lack of space, it is noted that a children's nursery of the S.K.E. of Agios Dometios operates on the premises of the School for the Deaf.
Finally, the Ministry assures that it is at everyone's disposal to address any issues that concern and/or affect the smooth operation of the School through dialogue and goodwill.
