The aim is transparency and fair and affordable prices in the market of local products

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces the creation of a price observatory for fruit and vegetable products under the name "e-coffee".

The "e-wafer", hosted on the website of the Department of Agriculture, regularly publishes the average selling prices of basic locally produced fruit and vegetable products, as determined both at producer level and at the various retail outlets, highlighting price differences. The collection of prices for "e-coffee" is carried out twice a week by officials of the Department of Agriculture in order to ensure timely and accurate recording of data.

The fruit and vegetable products whose prices are monitored by the 'e-wafer' include, inter alia, vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, broccoli, cauliflowers, cauliflowers, courgettes, onions, peppers, green beans and louis, and fruits such as bananas, watermelon, melons and strawberries.

To compile data at producer level, sales prices are obtained from the recognised Fruit and Vegetable Producer Groups and Organisations for the main products they market. As far as retail outlets are concerned, fruit and vegetable prices are collected from supermarkets operating on a nationwide basis.

The "e-coffee" is expected to help ensure fairer conditions for all stakeholders in the fruit and vegetable marketing chain, closing the gap between producer and retail prices. Its purpose is, on the one hand, to inform consumers about the expected prices of local fruit and vegetables, helping to improve market transparency and, on the other hand, to provide information to producers, enhancing the protection of their interests regarding prices in the primary sector.

The aim of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment with the implementation of the price observatory "e-coffee" is to maintain an open channel of communication with the main stakeholders in the supply chain of primary production products, while achieving the supply of high quality products at more fair and affordable prices for consumers.

In addition to the email address www.moa.gov.cy/ekofini, which the public will be able to visit, a public communication channel has also been created on the Viber app entitled Department of Agriculture e-coffee, for more immediate information. Interested parties wishing to receive further information may contact Ms. Melpomene Sakouk, Agriculture Officer at the Department of Agriculture, at msiakou@da.moa.gov.cy or by phone at 22464081.
