It is announced that on 31 May 2024 at 16:30, the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (RSRC) received information about a sinking sailboat with 5 passengers, who abandoned the vessel, in the sea area 35 nautical miles southeast of Larnaca. The information was provided by a tanker sailing in the area.
The CPSD activated the National Plan E-D NEARCHOS, mobilising a helicopter of the Police Headquarters Air Operations Unit, which was carrying a specialist paramedic from the Ambulance Service, in order to rescue those in danger.
The 5 persons were rescued and transported by helicopter to Larnaca airport, where they were handed over to an ambulance of the OCYPY at 18:15. All rescued persons are in good health.
