[PIO] Announcement by the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre for the rescue of persons in distress in the Pegeia sea area

On 21 April 2024, the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (LRCRC) received on two occasions information about persons in danger, due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the area. The first information was received at 16:34 and concerned a man who was in danger after a dive in the Sea Caves of Pegeia, while the second information was received at 18:55 and concerned a woman swimmer in danger in the sea area of Pottima, in Paphos.

In both cases, the KSEED immediately implemented the National Plan "NEARCHOS", mobilizing a police foot patrol, an ambulance of the Air Ambulance Service of the OCYPY and a helicopter of the 460th Search and Rescue Squadron of the Air Command of the Air Force of the General Staff, on board of which a specialized nurse of the Special Air Ambulance Team of the Air Ambulance Service was on board.

The persons, after being rescued, were transported and delivered to Paphos General Hospital for further examinations
