The General Staff of the National Guard (GNEF) announces that, from 6 to 18 August 2023, the Fighter School for the soldiers of the 2023 ESSO was held at the local formations and commands. The School is the culmination of the individual training of the new ESSO and its main purpose is to provide the basic knowledge that a fighter must possess, as well as to improve the physical condition and confidence of the soldiers in order to be able to respond to the modern battlefield.
To accomplish this purpose, the School's training programme included, among other things, items of individual tactics, firing of all types with their individual rifles, as well as grenade and grenade throwing, small scale exercises by day and night, living in a camp, marching, and others.
The Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis, during his visits to the formations and commands, attended part of the training, noting the high level of training and the interest, zeal, morale and enthusiasm of the new soldiers. He urged them to be proud to serve, thereby exercising their right and fulfilling an important part of their duty to their country. He added that by taking over the baton from the erstwhile NSSO, they are called upon to contribute to the common pursuit of strengthening and enhancing the National Guard and adhere to the "thou shalt not fail to deliver". In conclusion, he drew their attention to safety and avoidance of accidents, particularly highlighting the issues of road conduct and consciousness.
Addressing the discharged soldiers of the 2022 ESSO, after thanking them for their contribution, he mentioned that by completing their military service they fulfilled their constitutional obligation to the Homeland, therefore, he congratulated them that like all their predecessors, as well as their fathers and grandfathers, they have assisted during their service in carrying out the mission of the National Guard. Finally, he wished them health, good start and progress in their future life.
