The Department of Taxation informs that an unsolicited e-mail with the logo of the Ministry of Finance is circulating, requesting verification of the recipient's personal data and bank account details, under the pretext of a tax refund.

The Department draws the attention of citizens to such messages, which are intended to steal bank account details of unsuspecting citizens and urges those who have received such messages to ignore them.

It is stressed that the Tax Department communicates with taxpayers ONLY via e-mail addresses ending in: @tax.mof.gov.cy and that tax refunds are made only by remittance to a bank account, the IBAN of which the taxpayer declares to the Department, through secure procedures using a specific form.
