Responding to the needs of citizens and as the largest provider of health services in the country, the State Health Services Organization (SHSO) has implemented evening hours for the occupational therapists of the Center for Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD) and the Center for Prevention and Psychosocial Intervention (KEPPSYPA). Specifically, from 19 June 2024 and every Wednesday, citizens will be able to visit the occupational therapists of these 2 Centres, from 10 am to 5:30 pm.
The Centre for Children with Neurodevelopmental Difficulties (NDD) has the mission of both providing multi-level care to early years children up to the age of 7 who are experiencing Neurodevelopmental Disorders and in particular Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as supporting and properly guiding their families.
Through the Centre, assessments and treatments are offered by a specialized interprofessional team, which includes a Child Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist and a Mental Health Nurse, who have received systematic specialized training, work as a team and collaborate directly within the same setting.
At the same time, the creation of this Centre has contributed through the Social Media to further awareness and psychoeducation of the public regarding Neurodevelopmental Disorders and especially Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
The Centre is unique within the Mental Health Services Directorate (MHSD) / OCHSD and is a model of good practice in terms of timely and accurate assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic interventions for children who may be on the autistic spectrum.
The Centre for Prevention and Psychosocial Intervention (KEPSYPA) provides diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services to children, adolescents up to 17 years of age and their families. Interventions also include the family environment and the school context. Children and adolescents with mild to very severe psychological - psychosocial - psychoemotional difficulties are referred to the department.
The Centre develops activities related to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education and research and is staffed by an interprofessional team which includes Child Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapist and Mental Health Nurses
