It is with great pleasure that I am here tonight at an event co-organised by the University of Nicosia and the Karaiskakio Foundation.
We are proud as a State because we have the University of Nicosia. Let me tell you that, entering the building here, I remembered my student days which have nothing to do with everything I saw here. The importance we attach to higher education is undeniable.
In the very near future, in May, we will announce our strategy that aims to further upgrade our higher education. There is tremendous potential that we want to tap into and it is a strategy that touches on all these issues that you have mentioned to me from time to time in our meetings. It is a strategy that involves the Ministries of Education, Labour, Home Affairs, Finance and Foreign Affairs, and before it is published, we will of course consult with you.
We are proud of your work. For me, the University of Nicosia is a Centre of Excellence in our country, which we ought to support.
On the other hand, we have the Karaiskakio Foundation, about which no matter what we say, it is not enough. I will limit myself to refer to my experience as Foreign Minister, when I visited countries abroad, particularly countries in the region, how proud I felt when people told me about the work that Karaiskakeion was doing.
So, both the Karaiskakio Foundation and the University of Nicosia are worthy ambassadors of our country, your cooperation makes us feel even more proud and we are here tonight to taste flavours, aromas and listen to the beautiful music of Vasiliki.
