It is a special pleasure for me to participate today with all of you in this anniversary event that takes place on the occasion of the completion of 20 years of operation of the private school "OLYBION".
During these 20 years "OLYBION" through its successful course has managed to strengthen the qualitative promotion of education in our country with its offer. This, moreover, this orientation has governed its activities since its foundation and continues to be the constant in its mission, which is none other than the provision of high quality education.
The human-centred approach to teaching, the highly qualified staff, the modern facilities and the innovative programmes offered by the school fully meet modern educational needs, providing a strong guarantee for its students, forging their character and educational level so as to facilitate the continuation of their studies and enabling their subsequent successful professional rehabilitation.
Confirmation of what I have said above is the establishment of the school among the best private schools in our country - we are proud of this - as well as the distinctions and successes achieved by its students - this is the main objective - both through their active social activity and through their educational performance and professional careers. These are something that characterize the Lyceum.
The extension of the school's operation to primary private education, confirming the targeted development path it is following in a difficult period, is expected to continue the already established presence of Ekpedeftirio and its beneficial action for the education of our country.
Allow me at this point to refer to my own personal experience. This is not the first time I have visited the school. Last year, at the invitation of the students' journalistic team, I had the opportunity to visit the school. Apart from its modern equipment, I was impressed by the social, communication skills, knowledge and professionalism of its students, characteristics that they have developed precisely because of the opportunities and possibilities offered by the school.
It is in this context that I would like to warmly congratulate the school's management, teachers and other staff. Your dedication in carrying out the very demanding, pedagogical work that you are called upon to perform on a daily basis is the best factor in the success of the school. At the same time, your zeal and dedication contribute to the efforts and the goal we have set for ensuring the quality of education in our country. I want to assure you tonight that as a Government, realizing the importance of the proper functioning of all our schools, we support and will continue to support their operation substantially through actions, seeking their continuous upgrading.
The State, the State and all stakeholders must place Education and our education system as our main priority. And we have been doing this from the first day we took office because, as I myself have stated many times and I firmly believe, we recognise the importance of education as the most decisive factor, both for the education and character formation of our young people and, more generally, for the improvement of our society as a whole. Education, Education has a horizontal impact on all areas of governance and is for us a top priority in the context of our efforts to create real hope and a meaningful perspective for all the Cypriot people.
We recognize at the same time that all of you, our young people, are the future of our country, the citizens of tomorrow who will take over the reins of our country, and through education you will be given the guarantees that must be given to you to contribute creatively to its progress and prosperity.
Our main objective - the Minister of Education knows first-hand the problems of our education - is to address the chronic distortions and at the same time to lay together the foundations for the development of a modern, human-centred, educational system that must serve first and foremost the needs of our children. A system that will lay the foundations for the principles and values, the knowledge and skills that we want to distinguish democratic, critical thinking and active citizens of our society. It will enable experiential learning and creation, make the most of the necessary tools to cultivate our children's aptitudes and talents, fully shape their character and strengthen their personality.
Aiming at the immediate implementation of all that is included in our programmatic proposals, we have already proceeded with the implementation of innovative actions and practices and are promoting a number of other very important ones aimed at the beneficial reform and qualitative upgrading of the educational system.

Their love for education and their vision of providing quality education have been translated into action through the successful establishment and operation of "OLYBION".
