It is with great pleasure that I am with you today in the energy and industrial area of Vasilikos, in the presence of the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Mr. George Papanastasiou, for the inauguration of the road network of the area.

A very important development project both for the transport sector and for the energy and commercial development of our country.

The works started in January 2020 and were completed in October 2023 by Iacovou Construction Ltd and under the supervision of the Department of Public Works for a total cost of €16,700,000 including VAT. The funds were provided by the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry.

The project involves upgrading existing axes and developing new ones, with a total length of 9.3 km, The construction of six roundabouts and a bridge, the construction of pedestrian walkways with modern service infrastructure and the installation of street lighting along the entire length of the road, upgrading road safety.

The construction of this important project serves one of the most important industrial areas, with thousands of heavy vehicles moving daily to and from the oil and LPG storage terminals, the Vasilikos Cement Plant and the Vasilikos Port.

The transfer of all oil and LPG storage terminal facilities from the Larnaca seafront to the energy and industrial area of Vasilikos has been a demand of the residents of the affected municipalities for decades. Today, at last, it is finally taking place with the completion of the road network.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all those who contributed to the implementation of the project:

the Cyprus Electricity Authority,

the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority,

the Department of Water Development,

the Directorate and Officers of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry,

the Directorate and Officers of the Department of Public Works and

the Larnaca District Engineer of Public Works, who was responsible for the supervision of the project, and finally

the construction company 'Iakovou Brothers Construction Ltd'.
