Thank you for inviting me to attend and welcome today's ceremony, which is another important step towards the implementation of the great reform of local government. The integration of the Drainage Councils of Idali and Pera Chorion-Nisos into the Nicosia Drainage Council and from 1 July into the new Nicosia District Local Government Organisation, is expected to bring multiple benefits to the citizens of the new Municipality of South Nicosia-Idali, which will result from the merger of the Municipality of Idali and the communities of Pera Chorion, Nisos, Alambra, Lympion and Potamia.

By implementing the relevant European Directive on urban wastewater treatment, citizens are offered a better quality of service and, at the same time, the necessary extensions of the sewerage networks are ensured to meet our environmental objectives and upgrade public health. In particular, in relation to the high operational costs of sewerage systems, among other things, the adoption of green technologies will be facilitated, with the ultimate aim of reducing sewerage and user charges

Dear Friends,

We are in the final stretch for the implementation of the mega reform of Local Government. I am pleased to see that the pending issues are gradually being closed and both the Municipality of Idali and the Communities to be merged are working intensively and in close cooperation to ensure that the transition to the new Local Government environment is as smooth as possible. I am sure that the aim of all of us, both the central State and the Local Authorities, is to quickly adapt to the new conditions and support the reform, so that in the end, we will be able to offer citizens improved services and services at the local level.

Finally, I would like to thank the current Chairmen of the Drainage Boards, the Prefect of Nicosia and the Mayor of Idali, as well as the members of the Drainage Boards for their work which has resulted in two financially sound organisations being handed over to the Nicosia Drainage Board today.

Thank you and I wish you good business.
