It is with great pleasure that I address the conference on "[/B]Multiple Sclerosis in Cyprus. Newest data, developments and patient empowerment",which is organized by the newly established Scientific Section of Neurological Nursing of the Pancyprian Association of Nurses and Midwives.

I warmly congratulate you for your efforts, both for the enhancement of knowledge in the field of Neurological Nursing through your first scientific conference, and for the undivided zeal with which you carry out your profession. I extend my sincere congratulations to the organizers of the Workshop for their efforts to ensure that education in the field of Neurological Nursing is continuous.

Today, more than ever, the ongoing and planned dissemination of knowledge in the field of nursing science takes on a new dimension and becomes fundamental in the effort to ensure quality in all areas of health care services. This is, after all, the highest objective of the Ministry of Health: the continuous improvement and provision of health services to all citizens of the Republic in order to enjoy the highest possible quality of life.

Nursing care, especially in the management of people with neurological disorders, is a real challenge for the professional nurse who is confronted with the particular, specific and rapidly changing health needs of this group of sufferers.

The field of neurological nursing is certainly closely intertwined with rapid changes in treatment and research, making ongoing and planned continuing education necessary and imperative.

Friends,

Your presence here today is evidence of your personal interest in new developments in your field. The Ministry of Health supports the continuous professional training of nurses in the various areas of their practice.

It is a great satisfaction to me when nurses, who form the fundamental basis of our country's health care system, contribute to the improvement of Nursing Science through such initiatives and practices, bringing prestige and recognition to the Nursing Profession.

I therefore congratulate you warmly and wish you every success and good luck in your work.
