It is with great pleasure that I am attending today's Workshop on "Rare Diseases: Recognition, Treatment and Prevention". I would like to express my thanks to the Pediatric Clinic of the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital and the Cyprus Pediatric Society for organizing today's event.
This Workshop highlights a particularly important topic, Rare Diseases, which although rare in occurrence, have a significant impact on the lives of sufferers and directly affect their immediate family.
From a very young age, many children around the world are faced with rare diseases. This reality poses a number of challenges for both children and their families as they have to adapt to a new and difficult journey, that of care. This journey begins at a tender age and often continues into adulthood. Their life course is different to that of healthy children and it is important to ensure that they receive appropriate support and care. Access to specialist doctors and therapists, as well as ongoing research into new treatment approaches, are vital factors in improving their quality of life. The best we can do is to join forces and ensure that every child with a rare disease has the opportunity to live a full and happy life, despite the challenges they face.
Friends,
Discussing and sharing knowledge about the identification, treatment and prevention of rare diseases are key pillars in the field of pediatrics.
The Ministry of Health, through the General Health System, is committed to providing holistic health care services specifically for patients with rare diseases. We work closely with specialist teams of health professionals to ensure not only diagnosis and treatment, but also the necessary psychosocial support. A rational approach is vital to improve the quality of life of people living with rare diseases.
In conclusion, I would like to thank you all for being here and for your contribution to promoting health and well-being in our country. I hope that the discussions and presentations during your workshop will be inspiring and lead to new innovative approaches.
I wish you a constructive and successful Workshop, full of opportunities for learning and sharing of experiences.
