Ladies and gentlemen,
It is with pleasure that I accepted your invitation to welcome the event organised by the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre and the Europa Uomo Cyprus Patients' Association to discuss in simple and understandable terms about prostate cancer.
The data presented by the Cyprus Cancer Registry is alarming. The increase in the number of cases of prostate cancer in recent years demonstrates the need for increased screening and awareness.
As we know, prostate cancer progresses slowly and often shows no symptoms in its early stages. Therefore, attention and awareness among men is crucial. Risk factors such as obesity, age and family history should be taken seriously when assessing the risk of prostate cancer.
The Department of Health is committed to supporting every effort made to prevent and treat prostate cancer. We continue to work with relevant stakeholders to design and implement effective prevention and awareness programmes.
Ladies and gentlemen,
I would like to express my appreciation to Europa Uomo Cyprus for the invaluable role it plays in informing and raising public awareness about prostate cancer. It is essential to continue this fight to familiarise men with the preventive programmes and the available screenings.
Thank you all for your participation and support in this effort.
Let's continue to educate and raise awareness in the community about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of prostate cancer.
