I am pleased to address the opening of today's workshop organised by the Cyprus Standards Organisation on the new international standard ISO 7101:2023, which has been issued last October regarding the quality management of health services.
This standard, which is fully compatible with other popular management systems standards, was developed to fill important gaps in quality management in health services. It provides a comprehensive framework for quality management in health services, regardless of size, status, specialties and services. Accreditation to the international standard ISO 7101:2023 ensures a high level of quality of services offered by health care providers, especially medium and small sized providers who are not eligible for accreditation.
Friends,
In health policy making for the Ministry of Health, the issue of patient safety is placed at the highest level. The issue of patient safety involves a multi-factorial approach to the patient and concerns everyone employed in health care organizations. Patient safety is inextricably linked to the quality of the services they receive. In order for quality to be measured and documented, it is necessary to be able to compare it with quality standards.
The Cyprus Certification Body has exactly this important role and has been successfully fulfilling it in recent years, by introducing quality standards in Cyprus and informing stakeholders about them through trainings and workshops such as the one held today.
Health professionals and all those involved in the health sector in general are an important link in the chain of patient care and it is necessary to be able to operate with quality procedures and standards that ensure the quality of the health services offered. Therefore, it is a pleasure to see the large number of people participating in the information on the new international standard ISO 7101:2023.
The implementation of quality systems, the ongoing information and training of health professionals and all those involved in the health sector, as well as the implementation of systems for the organisation and supervision of services, contribute to the desired and common goal of ensuring the quality of the health services offered.
I hope you have a successful conference.
