It is with great pleasure that I address the Medical Workshop on Cardiac Arrhythmias, organised by the Cardiology Department of Nicosia General Hospital and the Cyprus Cardiology Society.

The collaboration of the Cardiology Clinic with distinguished physicians from abroad has repeatedly demonstrated the significant value of collective effort in the field of health and especially in the field of Cardiology. A cooperation that is decisive in the fight for the treatment of difficult cardiological problems with innovative therapies.

Cardiac arrhythmias are one of the most difficult issues in cardiology. Scientific advances and the emergence of new techniques and devices make arrhythmology one of the fastest growing parts of cardiology.

The topics of today's Workshop are truly remarkable. Among others, it will discuss specialized topics related to the most common cardiac arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, topics related to implantable cardiac devices, newer devices and general arrhythmology topics.

Workshops like today's are irrefutably a necessity. The importance of continuous training of health professionals in these new techniques and therapies is an undeniable tool in improving the quality of health services to citizens. With the continuous leaps in science, I believe we should be optimistic about the substantial benefits of cardiology science to every patient.

As a policy maker, it is our duty as the Ministry of Health to ensure the transfer of knowledge and experience to health professionals, especially to our medical professionals. It is also our duty to promote legislation and strategies, to ensure the quality of hospitals and to provide seamless support to health professionals within the General Health System.

I take this opportunity to especially thank our cardiology friends, both for their participation in the Workshop and for the high sense of responsibility they bear towards their patients, towards the national health services, keeping the bar of quality, information and collegiality high.

I welcome the distinguished speakers from both Cyprus and abroad, who have worked diligently for the success of the Workshop, bringing us optimistic and innovative approaches.

Friends,

In closing, let me once again congratulate the organizers of the Workshop and wish every success in its proceedings. I am sure that in addition to the scientific updates, this meeting will be a means of exchanging views, developing friendship and cooperation between Cypriot and visiting health professionals with the consequent positive results.

I assure you that in the battle for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and heart diseases in general, you have the Ministry of Health as your pioneer and ally.

Thank you.
