It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the press conference held on the occasion of the important action "STADIUM: The World of the Labour Market and Professions".

The Counselling and Vocational Education Service of the Directorate of Secondary General Education of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Associations of Parents of Public Secondary Schools co-organize the action "STADIUM: The World of the Labour Market and Professions", on 9 and 10 December 2023, at the "Filoxenia" Conference Centre in Nicosia. This action has become an annual institution and is under the auspices of the National Lifelong Guidance Agency, whose coordination has been entrusted to the YSEA.

The cooperation with the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Associations of Secondary Education Parents' Associations proved not only necessary but also valuable in actions related to the information of students and parents on career issues. Last school year the organization of the action "Careers 2023. Plan your Future" was a great success, as well as the organization of the Evenings, afternoon information activities for parents and students in all districts and on topics that are highly topical and useful for valid information. Special thanks are due to the President of the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Associations of Secondary Education Parents' Associations, Mr. Loizo Konstantinou, for the excellent cooperation and support. Particular emphasis is also placed on the issues of vocational rehabilitation and skills acquisition, which, especially in the current period, are very high on the priorities and interests of young people in Cyprus. In addition, the purpose of the event is to offer the opportunity for vocational training institutions and associations in Cyprus to inform secondary school, high school and technical school students, prospective students, secondary and higher education graduates, as well as other interested parties about the context of the labour market and the options it offers. Ultimately, it is organised to respond, as in the past, to the needs of pupils and students, while at the same time giving young people a message of optimism, restarting and activism, in an effort to help all those interested to adapt their career path to the current labour market or to their own needs, tendencies and desires. Youth unemployment has reached major proportions and threatens social cohesion and the future of the country. These changes have increased the dilemmas young people face in choosing a course of study and a profession. The school, through the actions of the Counselling and Vocational Education Teachers, is called upon to inform and empower each student to form an educational and social role capable of responding successfully to educational and professional decisions. For this reason, the Counselling and Vocational Education Service, through its teachers, contributes and assists through numerous vocational guidance activities and the organisation of educational events in the continuous support, encouragement and information of students, parents, teachers and all interested parties. As the competent service, it renews its commitment to support schools in the field of career education (personal development and cultivation of life skills, occupational sectors, education and training, study and work in Europe, entrepreneurship, professions and culture), with the aim of providing information on modern entrepreneurship and, above all, of opening schools to society, bringing pupils and other members of the educational community into contact with local authorities and local professional bodies. In addition, the programme has been interspersed with presentations concerning vocational training programmes. The event will empower young people in the process of choosing a profession and planning their career in time, from the perspective of shaping the professional of the future based on the needs of the labour market, with guaranteed professional rights and broadened professional horizons. We thank all the Associations and Institutions that responded positively to our invitation, since without their participation, this year's STADIUMIA could not have taken place.

It should be noted that the action is under the auspices of the National Lifelong Guidance Agency, which was established in March 2012 by a decision of the Council of Ministers. Its aim is to develop concrete policy in line with the Council of Europe Resolutions of 2004 and 2008 and the Commission Communication (COM (2010) 2020) "Europe 2020 - A strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. Lifelong Learning and Lifelong Guidance are inextricably linked concepts and through the ELGPN (European Lifelong Guidance and Policy Network) programme, these initiatives have added value and pushed policies and actions in the right direction, implementing Strategy 2020 objectives.

Within the framework of the operation of this body and according to the ministerial decision, objectives are set, such as the creation of a national system for the provision of quality guidance, the strengthening of citizens' access to guidance services, the promotion of research in the field of guidance, quality assurance and evaluation of guidance services, the representation of Cyprus in meetings and working groups at European and international level on lifelong guidance issues. All activities are coordinated by the Ministry of Education, Sports, Youth and the secretarial and other logistical support is provided by the Counselling and Vocational Education Service of the Directorate of Secondary General Education of our Ministry. As a Ministry, we believe that the organization of "Careers" contributes significantly to providing modernized and complete information, both to our students (who are prospective future students and the future human resources of our country's economy) and to other individuals (higher education graduates, professionals, unemployed) about the multitude of options and opportunities they have for further academic and professional development.

In conclusion, I would like to express my thanks to the co-organisers of this important action for their excellent cooperation and their active involvement in the implementation and continuous development of this institution. Special thanks to the Cyprus Radio and Television Foundation, which is the communication sponsor. Finally, I would like to thank all those who, with their presence and participation, support this effort, which I am sure will be crowned with success again this year. The address was given on behalf of the Minister by the Director of Secondary General Education, Dr Kyprianos Louis.[/B]
