It is a special pleasure for me to be among you today, in the context of the presentation of the activities of the educational programme "Let's get to know Kiss!" of the organization "Children's Museum of Cyprus", which is taking place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of our country.
Allow me to praise the Cyprus Children's Museum both for this action and the rest of the activities it undertakes over time, implementing initiatives that promote, like its objectives, the all-round cultivation of our children, activating in this direction, important synergies between school and family. Accordingly, the present initiative of the Museum, which aims at the active participation of children in various activities that will enhance their knowledge about the events and consequences of the Turkish invasion, while promoting a deeper acquaintance and the preservation of the memory of our occupied territories. By the teacher, Mrs. Praxoula Konstantinou". The rich testimonial material, collected by Mrs. Konstantinou with the help of the community leader of Filias, Mr. Andreas Michael, her fellow villagers and members of her family, the experiential activities designed by her, will enable the student and educational community, as well as each and every person participating in the program, to get to know the history, traditions, customs and traditions of occupied Filias.
At the same time, her love, her now close bond with a place that constantly comes alive in her mind and heart through the memories and stories told by her own people, experiences that she keeps as a precious amulet, will touch the soul of the children and ours.
They will become the occasion to assert once again that we will continue to strive for the prevalence of inalienable human rights and justice in our country, that we will continue to fight for a free and reunited homeland: To bring to life in the eyes and souls of our students our occupied land, the history, legends and local traditions of each region, to keep their image and the desire to return to our ancestral homes unquenched.
Most importantly, the values of freedom, justice and love for one's fellow man and country are cultivated in children, making them future protagonists in the struggle for local and world peace.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to warmly congratulate the organizers, the organization "Children's Museum of Cyprus" and the management of the Limassol Primary School III - Agios Spyridon I, who collaborated in the preparation and implementation of this programme.
I would like to commend you for your willingness and zeal in the implementation of this educational programme. Similar initiatives, both yours and those of your colleagues, highlight your sense of responsibility, emphasising that the concept of educational contribution is not limited to the ability to teach in a clear and comprehensible manner. On the contrary, it also includes all those actions that inspire students to make a creative contribution to the development of a healthy society and to the building of world peace.
Welcoming the rest of the rich activity you are developing, aiming at the good and the benefit of the schoolchildren, I want you to know that the Ministry will be at your side, supporting your efforts to carry out the demanding work of the teaching profession.
Dear children,
As a refugee myself, I feel deeply moved today. Your journey to Filiya evokes memories of my own occupied village of Vasileia. I hope that soon, like all children, you will be able to walk freely on the land of your teacher's village, mine and every inch of our homeland.
