It is with great pleasure that I attend today's inauguration ceremony of the new building of the Kindergarten of Latsion A', another project that was implemented in the framework of the goal of providing quality education to our children. Allow me, before I make another report, to thank the President and Members of the Latsia School Board, as well as the Management and the Parents' Association of the School, for their excellent cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, which is in line with our constant pursuit of synergies between the institutions operating in and around the school, for the benefit of our children. A similar synergy has resulted in the promotion and completion of this modern, functional and safe school building.

The project, which we are inaugurating today with a final construction cost of 450 thousand euros, was completed under the previous administration, in May 2020, and was the result of collective and long-term efforts to solve the housing problem of the pre-primary class. The new building now accommodates children, teachers and other school staff in an upgraded environment that promotes teaching and learning. Here, in this beautiful space, children will form their first friendships and discover the world in a way that paves the way for a lifetime of exploration, learning and progress.

It is now scientifically and pedagogically proven that pre-school education is the foundation for the formation of well-rounded personalities. Early childhood education is an integral part of the education system and plays an important role in the healthy and multifaceted development of the child. As the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, we attach particular importance to early childhood education. On the basis of the Governance Programme, we have made the transition to modern, human-centred and inclusive schools a priority. In this context, with regard specifically to pre-school education, we have proceeded to extend free compulsory education from the age of 4, which is one of the biggest educational reforms of recent years, with obvious positive pedagogical benefits for our children. In addition, we are moving towards the introduction of early intervention diagnostic procedures in kindergarten and pedagogical measures for prevention, early diagnosis and intervention in issues of violence/violence and literacy, with particular emphasis on pre-school age.

In conclusion, I warmly congratulate the President and the Members of the Latsia School Board and the Members of the Parents' and Guardians' Associations of the school of the last years, the Director and the officials of the Technical Services as well as those who cooperated for the realization of this project. I also warmly congratulate the management and staff of the school for the remarkable pedagogical work they carry out on a daily basis, as well as for the beautiful event they have prepared today, together with the children. The Ministry will always be of assistance to the work of the school, as it is in every effort to modernise our education and provide the necessary facilities for the progress of our children and young people.
