It is a special pleasure for me to address the graduation ceremony of the Public School of Higher Vocational Education and Training (MIEEK) of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth. This event is the culmination and reward for the effort made by the students of the School over the last two years.
Dear graduates,
With the completion of your studies at the Post-secondary Institutes of Vocational Education and Training, known as MIEEK, new horizons are opened and the beginning of a path is marked for all of you, in which the qualifications and special skills you have acquired will be the guarantees for your professional recognition. This, after all, is the aim of the MIEEK: through quality education programmes, to provide graduates with the necessary scientific, technical and professional knowledge, so that they can directly enter the labour market and contribute, through their high level of training, to the competitiveness and economic development of our country.
The importance that the Government attaches to Technical and Vocational Education and Training is very great and its upgrading and further improvement has already been announced, as well as the operation of MIEEKs, which operate in direct interconnection with the needs of the labour market.
In this context, the two-year assessed and certified curricula offered by the MIEEKs are the product of consultation with the social partners, designed specifically to meet the needs of the modern labour market.
By prioritising the quality assurance of the education provided by the MIEEKs, the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training adopts a coherent and targeted policy to ensure their future operation and continuous development. This policy focuses, among other things, on the systematic development of new certified curricula and the expansion of existing ones to other provinces, depending on the requirements of local labour markets.
Particular importance is also attached to upgrading the material and technical infrastructure and equipment of the VET schools, so that their students have the opportunity to have contact with modern methods applied in the workplace at local and international level. Already, since this academic year, the new, state-of-the-art MIEK building in Limassol "Absolute Institute of Technical Education" is fully operational. This building has state-of-the-art laboratories, infrastructure and equipment and offers five programmes of study in nine evening and morning classes.
I am particularly pleased to note that, as a result of the successful operation and the remarkable work carried out at MIEEKs, their graduates secure jobs in sectors of the economy that are relevant to their programme of study, at a rate of almost 100%.
It is with great satisfaction that I note that, as a result of the successful operation and the remarkable work carried out at MIEEKs, their graduates secure jobs in sectors of the economy that are relevant to their programme of study, at a rate of almost 100%. Taking into account the fact that along with the objective of further upgrading and expanding the MIEEKs, their institutionalisation under the umbrella of the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training is being promoted, it is expected that their successful operation so far will be further strengthened.
I take this opportunity to congratulate and praise, as important pillars of this success, the members of the teaching and administrative staff of the MIEEKs who, through their zeal and professionalism, provide decisive support for the work carried out.
Of equal importance and great significance is the valuable contribution of the institutions and experts in higher education who participate in the Council of the School.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks for the excellent cooperation between all stakeholders for the adequate and effective operation of the Public School of Higher Vocational Education and Training, thus contributing to the professional competence of the graduates and their successful professional careers.
Dear graduates,
I warmly congratulate you on the successful completion of a difficult journey, with the main element being the effort to learn and acquire professional skills and competences. In particular, I express my appreciation to your loved ones who have stood by your side to enable you to complete your chosen programme of study. Today, you rightly feel proud, as you have set goals which, through your perseverance and hard work, you have managed to achieve. The diploma you hold in your hands is the qualification that will enable you to enter the professional field of your choice with high expectations. Continue with the same thirst for learning, build on your knowledge with confidence and trust, move forward with patience and diligence, setting new, even greater goals. I wish all of you a good career.
