It is a special pleasure for me to welcome today's award ceremony for the athletes who took part in the Under-15 World Gymnastics Championships, held last August in Brazil.
The participation of our country in this great sporting event was a huge challenge, since for the first time it was represented by a delegation of children under 15 years old in six events: athletics, swimming, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, taekwondo and judo.
In this context, the collection of the gold medal, two silver, five bronze and one for fair play, the honorary positions and performances, as well as the participation of our children alone in this great sporting event, created feelings of great emotion and pride in everyone.
Apart from the great results they managed to achieve, the most important thing is that our athletes were distinguished for the excellent and exemplary ethics and sportsmanship they showed during their competition.
Remaining true to the principles and values of fair play, fair play and excellence, apart from themselves, their coaches, their coaches, their own people and their schools, they honoured our country and its flag and became its best ambassadors.
They have become models of the will, patience and perseverance that should characterize the path to success of every athlete.
It is in this highly demanding effort that the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth seeks to be a companion, supporting the path to success of our children, their coaches and their coaches.
The highest priority of the policy we adopt is the continuous upgrading of school sport, the strengthening of sports education, the creation of a sports culture already from childhood, as well as the evolutionary course of Cypriot sport in general.
The ultimate goal of our plans is to involve our children in a healthy involvement with sport, to cultivate their character based on the noble principles and values it stands for, to bring out new talents and to ensure an environment with equal opportunities, equal opportunities and equal participation for all.
I would like to thank the coaches, as well as the families of the athletes, who stood by their side and supported their efforts at the 2nd World Gymnastics Championships.
Addressing you, my dear children, I would like to congratulate you warmly. Today's ceremony is nothing more than the due praise and the return of the high honor for the deserved representation of our Cyprus.
You have given us unique moments. We are well aware of the daily intensive effort, the systematic preparation and the personal sacrifices required in order for you to be able to participate in such major sporting events.
Please know that your patience, perseverance, self-discipline and dedication in achieving your goals is an example not only for your classmates, but also for all of us.
Continue to set new goals and strive ethically until you achieve them, becoming role models and a source of inspiration.

Note: The address was delivered on behalf of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth by the Director General of the Ministry, Dr. Marina Ioannou Hasapi.
