It is with great pleasure and pride that I address today's award ceremony of the excellent student-athletes of Secondary Education, who excelled in the whole range of school competitions, at national, national and world level, in individual and team sports, during the current school year.

The comprehensive education of our children and young people and the formation of integrated citizens capable of acting independently and wisely, enriching their knowledge and developing their abilities and skills, is the main objective of our educational system. In addition to this, the education provided to our students is also aimed at cultivating sports education, which is linked to "fair play", distinction, achievement and reward.

Today, it is with great pleasure that we honour students whose performance makes them ambassadors of the high ideals of sport and healthy role models for all of us.

Today, it is with great pleasure that we honour students whose performance makes them ambassadors of the high ideals of sport and healthy role models for all of us. Today's honorees assure us through their struggle and effort that they can make a decisive contribution to the effort to create a healthy society based on the principles of democracy, justice and mutual respect.

By strengthening the institution of Sports Schools, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth aims to provide multifaceted support to students-athletes who excel in the field of sport, both for the proper preparation and promotion of sport and to support the goal of creativity, innovation and excellence in sport. Today, Sports Schools, Gymnasiums and High Schools operate with great success in all provinces, offering specialised programmes to enhance the training activity of student-athletes, while providing academic and psychological support. The increased interest in attending the Sports Schools and the competitive distinctions of our student-athletes in the World Gymnastics Championships and the Panhellenic Championships, as well as their excellent school performance, confirm the correctness of the structure and philosophy of the Sports School.

We are convinced that the enhancement of training activity during the morning hours, as well as the continuous monitoring and enhancement of the academic progress of our athletes, through the Sports High School, is the springboard for achieving greater athletic and academic excellence.

Our overall plans as the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth in the field of sport aim to improve the physical and mental health of all citizens, as well as to promote sport as a provider of education and as a tool for a healthy lifestyle. Among other things, we promote the implementation of actions to promote lifelong exercise, the development of mass sport programmes, the creation of programmes for the exploitation of model athletes and the promotion of new talents, and the integration of Olympic Education into our curricula. At the same time, we are implementing policies that will contribute to the provision of equal sporting opportunities for all and to the inclusion of people with disabilities in sport. In addition, realising the great importance of the quality and adequacy of our sports infrastructures, we promote their further upgrading and utilisation, with the objectives of assisting the effort for mass sports, strengthening championship sport, attracting international events, promoting sports tourism and their more effective and efficient use by organised groups.

Dear students,

Today, your efforts are recognised and rewarded, thanks to which you have managed to stand out and achieve great distinctions. I express my warmest congratulations to you both for the great effort and effort you put into your daily life, always striving for the best, and for the touching moments you give us with your academic and sporting achievements.

I urge you to continue your efforts with strength and zeal, so that you can claim even more and greater academic and sporting distinctions. Continue to set new goals, to compete ethically until you achieve them, to become role models and a source of inspiration.

I also congratulate all the teachers, coaches and trainers of the award-winning athletes for the excellent work they do, as well as their parents and families for the important support they give them.

In conclusion, I would like to thank all our partners for their excellent cooperation and the valuable assistance they provide to the sporting events of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth. I am confident that this joint effort will bring the desired results and will lead to further progress and development of Cypriot sport.
