Ladies and gentlemen,
Friends and friends,
It is a great pleasure for me to be with you in Larnaca, having the opportunity to share with you the unique music and dance experience that the 16th Festival of Traditional Dances, Choirs and Orchestras taking place in Larnaca will offer from today and in the coming days.
Allow me to warmly congratulate the Municipality of Larnaca and the Nicosia Cultural Folklore Club for taking the initiative and organizing this special celebration of culture.
The presidents and members of the Councils of both the Municipality and the Cultural Folklore Club of Nicosia, with a special love for tradition and culture and with their preservation and dissemination in mind, develop a rich activity in this direction, contributing at the same time to the enrichment of cultural life in our country.
A simple example is the distinguished in Europe Festival of Traditional Dances, Choirs and Orchestras, which has now established itself as an institution, with particular appeal to local and foreign visitors, who travel to our island especially on the days of its organization to watch or participate in the specific cultural events that accompany it.
The same this year, for yet another year, the heart of culture will be beating in the streets and squares of the town of Zenon.
The festival, an ambassador of our unique hospitality and rich cultural heritage, as well as of the dynamics that our country has developed in recent years in the global artistic scene, brings together both the uniqueness and the common elements of the culture and traditions of the Mediterranean and other countries.
The dancers from all over the world, the members of the choirs and the members of the orchestras participating in the selected programme will offer a unique extravaganza of tradition and culture.
In this context, the audience that will be in Larnaca for the festival, will have the opportunity to enjoy representative music and dance samples in a meeting with the world's cultural wealth.
Most importantly, through the introduction of each individual culture, the festival is a unique pillar for strengthening ties and relations between countries, bringing together competent bodies and citizens in a common effort to preserve the world's tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
Dear friends,
It is the duty of all of us to preserve, cultivate and disseminate the distinctive features of our cultural heritage in all its manifestations. As elements that make up our identity as a people, it is, at the same time, our duty to use them creatively for the benefit of the new generation of our country.
Just as it is our duty to teach the value of respecting and appreciating the specificity of each people's identity.
This very objective is a priority in the coherent policy and targeted actions promoted by the Government through the competent Deputy Ministry and the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.
Friends,
The 16th Festival of Traditional Dances, Choirs and Orchestras is the bridge that connects the cultural past and present of the Mediterranean.
