It is with great pleasure that I address this evening, on behalf of the President of the Republic, the annual festive event organised by OPAP Cyprus for its agents. This is an event that has become an institution, since it has been organised since 1988, with the aim of highlighting the mutual respect and the sincere relationship that exists between the Company and its network of agents, as well as awarding the best of them on the basis of their performance during the past year.
OPAP Cyprus is a special entity for our country, since, in addition to the significant profits it has distributed through its games to thousands of Cypriot lucky players during its 55 years of operation on our island, it has provided jobs to hundreds of our compatriots and has undertaken important actions in the field of social responsibility.
During its long presence in Cyprus, OPAP has developed a wide range of services and products that meet the needs of players and contribute to the entertainment and fun of the public. At the same time, it supports Cypriot society in all important areas. With a focus on people, the Company's contribution to society, particularly in the areas of health, education, culture, sport and the environment, is long-standing and significant. Through initiatives and community support programs, the Company contributes to improving the living conditions of many people in our country.
OPAP Cyprus' action is fully in line with the Government's key priorities for improving the daily lives of citizens and for a better tomorrow for our country, with education and health being at the heart of our efforts. As regards specifically the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, the close cooperation we have developed with OPAP Cyprus contributes to the realization of our objectives to further upgrade the infrastructure in our school premises and to implement actions aimed at providing equal opportunities across the entire spectrum of our educational system, on our way to a modern, student-centered and inclusive school.
OPAP's network of agencies is one of the largest commercial networks in Cyprus, with more than 200 stores across the country, which are an important support for the company, contributing to its success and promoting its values and services to the wider public.
Considering the professionalism with which they work and the high sense of responsibility of the managers of OPAP's agencies, the Company is tonight awarding the best ones, as a token of appreciation, recognition and reward. This moment expresses the creative completion of a thoroughly successful year, but also represents the starting point for the next steady steps forward in a more optimistic and hopeful environment.
I extend my warmest congratulations and thanks to the Board of Directors of OPAP and the members of the Association of Professional Agents of OPAP Cyprus, who through the implementation of their programs and actions are carrying out a very important work, supporting the Cypriot society and our country in general.
