From the depths of my soul I want to express my thanks for the cooperation I had with the two Directors General, Andreas and Kostas and all the staff of the Ministry, my personalities Maria Smyrilli and Maria Theocharous, Maria Georgiou, Socrates, Anthony, Pambos, the Directors of the Departments of the Ministry and all the staff of the Departments, for your willingness, your professionalism to respond at any hour of the day to the difficult demands of this multi-disciplinary Ministry.

In my ten months at the Ministry, I have met excellent colleagues, friends and made new colleagues and very good friends. I have learned so much from you in this Ministry, worked tirelessly with you to resolve difficult issues that were dating and that we put on track for implementation.

I served the country from various positions in both the private and public sectors and as Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment I worked with zeal, honesty, dedication, betting with myself to solve problems and promote all the actions of the Government for the benefit of farmers, livestock farmers, the countryside and the people of the countryside and all of Cyprus.

I want to dwell on important issues that we touched upon. There are so many, I will just dwell on a few important ones. On halloumi, I have to say that I must salute the determination of all the stakeholders who support halloumi as a product with a Certified Designation of Origin PDO, which adds value to our national product. As I have said several times, it must be guarded like the apple of our eye, because PDO halloumi is a shield to protect this national product. First of all, everyone should know that Akamas started in October 2022 and was a 14-month contract. We found problems in Akamas and immediately talked about bringing in experts. Three excellent professors, top professors from the National Technical University of Athens, from which I am a graduate, along with a representative of the National Technical University of Athens. I went to the area and soon within the month they will submit their report and their recommendations so that the restoration projects can be completed with the least environmental impact on this unique National Forest Park which is a unique habitat of the region and of Cyprus.

We have approved the community support measures on 30 August and these measures enhance the development activities of the communities and have started to be implemented. Regarding the waste management units, you know very well that from the first day I came here, I identified the problem with the Pentagon and we made tremendous and tireless efforts and we finally achieved what we promised to the communities. To take over the management of the OEDA Pentakomou, so that the unit can function properly for the benefit of Limassol, Paphos and the surrounding communities. A similar case is the Kossi OEDA. We have arrived, after intensive work, at a plan which I expect to be approved by the Council of Ministers in the coming months, so that we can properly manage the scyvala, the municipal waste of Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta. At the same time, organic waste must also be well managed and treated.

As far as agricultural policy is concerned, I am sure that the agricultural organisations are also very happy with what we have done so far. We have wheeled out a lot of actions so that we can give incentives and development to farmers, livestock farmers and the countryside in general. I want to thank the President of the Republic, who has given me the opportunity through the Cabinet to serve my country and to implement the work of the Government for the benefit of our country. I also thank very much all my colleagues here at the Ministry and of course all of you.
