It is with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation of the Mayor of Gerios to attend and put under my auspices the event "Life and light through tradition" organized by the Municipality of Gerios.
Cultural events such as tonight's, which are organized by our municipalities and communities and highlight popular culture, are important. Such events preserve historical memory and tradition while shedding light on traditional occupations and arts that have either been abandoned or tend to be abandoned. They recreate the world of yesterday and project it creatively into the present, aspiring to keep it unchanged in time.
Events such as this also help to strengthen the bonds between the inhabitants of the community, the older and the younger. They also showcase and preserve our tradition and cultural heritage. Such initiatives are always welcome and praiseworthy.
I would like to congratulate the Mayor of Gerion because at a time of alienation and alteration of our customs and traditions, you, as a municipality with a tradition of rural customs and traditions of our people, continue to keep our tradition alive. I would also like to congratulate you for including our occupied municipalities in this event, giving them the opportunity to showcase their tradition. It is important to give the floor to our occupied villages and towns, demonstrating in practice that we do not forget and are fighting for the day of return.
I would like to stress that, as the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, we attach great importance to the preservation of our cultural heritage and we actively support the communities and the municipalities that keep it alive. Besides, through our customs and traditions we keep the memory of our tradition unquenched.
In conclusion, I would like to congratulate the Mayor of Gerios and all those who worked for this beautiful event. I wish everyone a wonderful evening.
