It is a great pleasure to have your event under our auspices and an even greater pleasure to be invited to join you tonight at an event organised by youth for youth. Congratulations are due to the President of the Board of Directors of the "Kormakitis" Association, Mr. Giannakis Lazaris and all its members.

Our young people, all of you, are our best investment and our hope for a better future and the Service, of which I am the Head, could not be absent from events like tonight's.

Our children and young people are a top priority in the President's Programme of Governance whose focus is on people and a people-centred approach. It is on this basis that our actions and activities are designed to safeguard their rights and meet their needs.

It is even more our responsibility when there is a need to provide support for the development of actions by young people. Actions such as those developed by your Association, which is a shining example of taking and promoting initiatives of a cultural and sporting nature.

Your actions, which are implemented both in the free areas and in the occupied Kormakitis and are addressed not only to your members but to the wider Maronite community, reveal your intentions and objectives, which are none other than the preservation of the history, traditions and values of the community.

Traditions and values carried by your grandmothers, grandfathers and parents. Traditions and values of which I have first-hand knowledge, as I have made several visits to occupied Kormakitis and have had the opportunity to learn about them and to talk to our interned and resettled people.

Traditions and values that are an honor to the community and are expected of you to preserve them.

Traditions and values that are an honor to the community and are expected of you to preserve them. The good yeast is there. We need the recipe, the plan and the determined people who will carry out the vision. Your vision, the vision of your association, which is to elevate the Maronite community at various levels.

Our role, the role of the State, the role of the agency I head, is supportive. I am here to express our support, to assure you that we are working for you, our young people, and to reiterate that with cooperation between us the goals can be achieved.

I conclude by referring to Aristotle and to "Youth desires excellence, and victory desires excellence". Youth desires excellence, and victory is a kind of excellence.

I wish the New Year is full of victories for your club, for you and for your community.
