Last year in this same space, the Press and Information Office together with the Nicosia International Festival met to present the photographic exhibition "ELLE - Woman in Antiquity".
As proud as we are of the successful run of that exhibition both in Cyprus and abroad, we are equally proud tonight to present its sequel, the new photographic exhibition of the Press and Information Office entitled "KTICICIC".
This year, the special photographic eye of Stefanos Kouratzis and the artistic wisdom of Katerina Nikita take us to the inaccessible, for the general public, space of the administrative centre of the town of Kourion. They (re)introduce us to one of the richest and most powerful kingdoms of ancient Cyprus. A legendary monument whose form combines memories and personal readings from the Middle Bronze Age to the present day.
In the mosaic found in a complex of the house of Eustolios, named after an inscription that mentions Eustolios as the architect, we are greeted by a familiar yet largely unknown female figure. In her hand she holds a measuring rod used by architects in ancient times. One cannot help but wonder, was a woman an architect in antiquity? Was she the architect? What is her story?"
The only certainty is that this female figure, exposed to natural hazards and the rich history of our island, is transformed in our eyes as the symbol of endurance and survival of all Cypriots.
Dear all,
True to its mission, the Press and Information Office captures, records and highlights Cyprus and its culture at every opportunity, unraveling the thread that connects yesterday with today.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Minister of Interior Mr. Constantinos Ioannou for the honour of inaugurating the exhibition.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Artistic Director of the Nicosia International Festival, Director of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre Mr. George Papageorgiou for his constant and valuable cooperation.
I express my gratitude to the former Director of the Department of Antiquities Dr. Marina Solomidou-Ieronymidou for the access permission she granted us, as well as to the Officers of the Department of Antiquities without whose help we would not have been able to complete the KTICIC publication you are holding in your hands and, of course, to the Government Printing House that carried it out.
Many thanks and kudos to the key contributors - photographer Stefanos Kouratzis and art consultant Katerina Lewis Nikita, and my colleagues at the Press and Information Office for their enthusiasm, creativity and dedication in completing and implementing this exhibition.
I look forward to our next meeting.
