As part of its corporate responsibility program, for yet another year, EKO CYPRUS LIMITED provides a donation in excess of 250.000 litres of oil and LPG for heating to roofs for the elderly and disabled, to crèches, to child protection and employment centres, in mountainous areas, to a day care centre for people with disabilities and to the Makarios Hospital for all winter months.

Exceptional initiatives for society as a whole, and particularly for vulnerable citizens, are an example to follow as they aim to serve specific groups with specialised needs.

The Ministry of Social Welfare, as the Ministry of State responsible for ensuring conditions of social cohesion and social solidarity, providing social protection and combating social exclusion, encourages and welcomes these actions.

The support and development of mountain areas is one of the government's priorities. It is in this context that the Ministry of Social Welfare has successfully implemented the "Neighbourhood Social Worker" programme in mountainous areas and the aim is to extend it nationwide. Together with the local authorities we aim to better address the challenges of an individual or local nature.

The extension on a Pancyprian basis of the "Neighbourhood Social Worker" is in essence, a practical implementation of the aim of the Government of Nicos Christodoulides for an empathetic, people-centred governance.

At the same time, the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, in order to support the needs of society, the reconciliation of family and professional life and the needs of the elderly as well as all those who need long-term care, has announced this year the new State Grants Scheme for the creation of new or the expansion of existing social care homes under the Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021 - 2026.Under the State Grants Plan of the State Ministry of Social Welfare, annual financial support is granted to non-governmental organizations and local governments for the operation of programs serving the elderly, elderly shelters, adult centers and home care programs. Specifically, in 2022, sixty-one (61) such programs received a total of €1.7 million in government support.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I believe deeply in synergies. Clearly the State Ministry of Social Welfare formulates and supervises social policy. However, a welfare state cannot be a state ministry on its own. This is where your contribution is needed: private initiative, local government as the institution closest to the citizens, the Church and non-governmental organisations.

All together, fellow travellers, we can build a people-centred state.

After all, this is the social policy applied by all European and modern states.

I would like to congratulate EKO CYPRUS LIMITED once again for its action with the wish to continue its charitable work.

Thank you
