It is with great pleasure that I welcome the 25th edition of the Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival, the longest running and most successful state institution in the field of dance, held, as always, in collaboration with the Rialto Theatre.

Since 1998, the first year of the institution, the Festival has given the public the opportunity to watch pioneering dance groups from abroad, thus contributing significantly to the promotion of contemporary dance in Cyprus.

After 26 years, the institution has managed to build a loyal audience that is constantly growing and becoming wider, as it is embraced by all ages, dance professionals and non-dance professionals alike. It is important that, along with the evolution of the Festival, the audience of Cyprus has also evolved, becoming more receptive to new ideas and new dance forms and acquiring higher expectations.

Indicative of the recognition that the institution receives at local and European level is the fact that the Festival has received the EFFE Label from the platform "Europe for Festival, Festivals for Europe".

In this year's event, which has rightfully been included in the official programme of events for the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus' accession to the European Union, the audience will have the opportunity to watch 7 performances of high artistic quality from Cyprus, Greece, Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands. No mention could be made of the long-standing and valuable cooperation of the embassies in Cyprus in the success of the institution.

Finally, I would like to thank the five-member Project Selection Committee. Alexis Vassiliou, the choreographer Mrs. Elena Antoniou and the choreographer Mr. Fotis Nicolaou for their work and I wish every success to the 25th Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival.
