It is with great pleasure that I inaugurate tonight the second "Limassol Photography Festival", congratulating the initiative and artistic conception of BPRArts Cultural Management for the whole organization and especially for their success in including the festival in the certified actions for the Cultural Olympiad for 2024. The Cultural Olympiad promotes the links between art and sport, promoting excellence, integration, cultural diversity and universality by the Organising Committee of the Paris 2024 Games.

This is indeed an important event for us, as the Deputy Ministry of Culture, which we support through our sponsorship programme "CYPRUS", as it combines the art of photography and the love for sport, for fair play, under the title "Athlos". It combines the magic of art with ethics and Olympic ideals, in a space, the Limassol Mole, that is accessible and open to all.

As the Deputy Ministry, we support art that is close to people in every way. And that is why we have chosen to support festivals all over Cyprus, in cities or in villages that allow everyone to get in touch with all aspects of our contemporary culture. We also applaud the creation of fine institutions with depth and substance, such as this festival, and we hope that it will be continued and embraced even more by the community.

The "Limassol Photography Festival" unfolds this year in seven parallel exhibitions, mostly outdoor, with the participation of 28 artists from Cyprus and abroad. We are particularly pleased with the collaboration of so many artists from Cyprus and abroad and, above all, the fruitful dialogue that develops between them within the framework of this festival.

The work of the artists, who are many and renowned, in their parallel presentation, creates an important dialogue between different perspectives, styles, different peoples and in a pioneering way contributes to the history and understanding of Olympism. It contributes to the transmission of the Olympic spirit. I could not fail to comment on the thematic emphasis on women in sport and on Paralympic games and athletes, a fact that particularly moves me and demonstrates the importance of the contribution of sportswomen and athletes as symbols and heroic figures of modern history.

In conclusion, I would like to emphasise the particular importance of the rich programme of parallel events accompanying this year's festival, which promotes culture in the youth world and is in line with our strategic objective as a State Ministry for the development of cultural education programmes.

I therefore congratulate all the participants in tonight's event, the photographers, all together and each one individually, welcoming those who are visiting Cyprus on this occasion. I sincerely congratulate the curator of the Festival Ms. Catherine Nikita and the artistic director Mr. Stefanos Kouratzis. I would like to thank the French Embassy in Cyprus, the French Institute of Cyprus, the Municipality of Limassol and the Bank of Cyprus for their cooperation and wish you all the best for the continuation of your work.

Now allow me to say a few words in English. This year's festival unfolds in seven parallel exhibitions with the participation of artists from Cyprus and abroad. Taking this opportunity, I would like to address the 28 photographers presenting their work in the framework of the festival; your artistic value creates an important dialogue amongst different perspectives, various styles, different peoples, and in a pioneering way contributes to the history, understanding and transmission of the Olympic spirit.

Therefore, I congratulate all the participants in tonight's event, each and every one of you - the photographers- and especially those of you who are visiting Cyprus on this occasion. I would like to extend my warm congratulations to the cultural manager of the Festival, Ms Catherine Nikita, and the artistic director, Mr Stefanos Kouratzis.

I would also like to thank the French Embassy in Cyprus, the French Institute of Cyprus, the Municipality of Lemesos and the Bank of Cyprus for our close cooperation.

I wish you every success in this important cultural event.
