The event was co-organized with the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Cyprus.
It is with great pleasure that I welcome tonight's event, which is organised by the oldest secondary school in Cyprus, the Pancyprian Gymnasium.
Today's initiative highlights the value of culture through the prism of education. The presence of Dr. Stephan Schmid, a renowned professor of archaeology from the Humboldt University of Berlin, as well as the highlighting of topics that showcase the richness of our culture, deepens the understanding of its invaluable value.
The timeline mural depicting iconic monuments of Nicosia, which we are inaugurating today, is a vivid example of how art can act as a catalyst for both educational experience and development. Of how it can encourage the active participation of students, making them participants in our history and culture.
Supporting the harmonious coupling between culture and education, the Deputy Ministry of Culture promotes strategies to enhance cultural literacy, awareness and expression in the younger generation. It is clear that culture and education play a key role in shaping open, democratic and creative societies.
For us, the Ministry of State, engaging children with art and culture is considered essential for a more cohesive and empathetic society. To this end, the Ministry of State is launching a series of cultural education actions. The "Schools Ambassadors of Culture-Children Ambassadors of Culture" programme, which is being promoted in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, aims to integrate cultural education into the educational cycle.
Our desire is for children to come into contact with their culture, ancient and modern, so that it becomes part of the process of shaping their identity. To give them the opportunity to express themselves through the arts, to get in touch with their roots and their intangible cultural heritage. Because culture is not only a treasure of the past, but also a vital resource for our future.
Dear teachers, dear children,
We are confident that the Pancyprian Gymnasium will play a leading role in this initiative, being one of the examples to follow. Your contribution to the promotion of cultural heritage and educational excellence is invaluable.
In conclusion, I would like to express my warmest congratulations to the management of the Pancyprian Gymnasium, to all the teachers and students who actively participated in all this. I am sure that this event will be part of a series of initiatives that strengthen the link between cultural education and social development, highlighting the importance of art and culture in the creation of well-rounded human beings.
