It is an honor to be with you tonight on such a beautiful evening and to support this important event entitled "Melodies of Love". Love is a driving force, as it brings together people with sensitivities and social conscience, catalyzing the realization of sacred causes, such as the support of the "Little Heroes" Foundation and Europa Donna Cyprus.
I extend my heartfelt greetings to all those who contributed to the realization of tonight's event. Actions like this, in addition to financially supporting voluntary organisations, contribute to raising awareness and informing the public. They make a major contribution to spreading prevention and to countering fear and prejudice.
The fact that there is no longer a family in its immediate or wider circle that has not been called upon to face this difficult opponent called cancer makes the implementation of immediate and effective actions imperative.
In the light of this unpleasant reality, the Ministry of Health is vigorously declaring war against cancer on all fronts.
Some examples of our programs are the upgrading of population-based breast cancer screening nationwide and the promotion of the launch of population-based programs for colorectal, prostate and cervical cancer. In addition, the preventive program of vaccination of children for the human papilloma virus HPV is being implemented.
Another important effort of the Ministry is the preparation of the framework law for the provision of palliative care services to suffering patients. At the same time, the creation of the National Cancer Institute is being promoted, which, among other things, will have the responsibility to proceed with the evaluation, accreditation and organization of all oncological services focusing on the main pillars of action of prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, research as outlined in the National Cancer Strategy.

In closing, I would like to thank the organizers, Councillor Chrysanthos Fakas and the John Livanos Support Group for organizing this evening of love. Such acts of solidarity give strength and courage to continue the work done for our fellow cancer patients.
I wish everyone a pleasant evening accompanied by the wonderful melodies!
