[PIO] Action Plan of the Ministry of Interior for the period 2023-2024

On the occasion of the presentation today of the Budget of the Ministry of Interior to the Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budget by the Minister of Interior Mr. Constantinos Ioannou, the publication of the Action Plan of the Ministry of Interior for the period 2023-2024 is announced.

The six flagship actions of the Plan are as follows. [*]Implementation of the Local Government Reform: From 1 July 2024, the Local Government Reform will be implemented, aiming at the administrative and financial autonomy of the Municipalities, with the expansion of their role and responsibilities, in order to offer more and better quality services to the citizen, with transparency and efficiency. [*]Implementation of the actions of the new single housing policy: Through a series of Plans and measures, the implementation of the actions of the new single housing policy gives all citizens, regardless of their socio-economic background, access to affordable housing. [*]Simplification of land development permitting procedures: In order to redesign and simplify land development permitting procedures, the introduction of a more flexible permitting framework is promoted through the implementation of 22 measures to improve the service to citizens. [*]Streamlining Turkish Cypriot property management procedures: Implement a series of measures focusing on increasing controls on lease contracts, modernising the legislation governing the management of Turkish Cypriot properties and introducing qualitative and measurable criteria for their more efficient use in a meritocratic and transparent manner. [*]Strengthening Civil Protection and National Emergency Plans: Develop and implement policies and Special Plans for the effective prevention, preparation and response to natural and/or man-made disasters and the provision of civil protection services to the population.
