[PIO] A workshop was held on: "Violence and Delinquency at School: From theory to practice".

The Observatory on Violence in Schools (PA.VI.S.) of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth held on Wednesday, 15 May 2024, at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel, Limassol, from 8:15-13:00, a Workshop on "Violence and Delinquency at School: From theory to practice"

The Workshop was organized in the framework of the Structured School Support Programmes offered by PA.VI.S. and aimed at presenting in depth the phenomenon of school violence and delinquency, analysing the factors that contribute to the manifestation of the phenomenon, as well as identifying good practices for its prevention and response.

During the workshop, the Director General of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr Marina Ioannou Hasapi, gave a welcome address on behalf of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, as well as a short welcome address by the Director of the Pedagogical Institute, Dr Elena Hadjikakou. The Workshop included two keynote speeches. Dr. Vasiliki Artinopoulou, Professor of Criminology at the Department of Sociology, Panteion University, Head of the Scientific Committee under the Prime Minister for Violence and Delinquency of Minors (2024) offered a presentation on "Violence and Delinquency of Minors. Dr Panagiotis Stavrinidis, Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Cyprus, referred to the contribution of domestic scientific research to the formulation of policy, actions and good practices on school violence and delinquency. The workshop concluded with four parallel experiential workshops, which were moderated by PA.BI.S. officials.

The Workshop was attended by 150 teachers of all levels and from all provinces of Cyprus and within its framework, they were given the opportunity to discuss and reflect through experiential workshops, as well as to attend the presentation of good practices and actions from a number of schools that participated in the structured programmes of PA.VI.S., during the school year 2023-24.
