In the framework of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which begins tomorrow at the Organization's headquarters in Geneva, a meeting of the Group on Cyprus was held today with the participation of members of the delegation of the House of Representatives.
During the meeting, the Cypriot MPs reaffirmed our side's commitment to a solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bizonal bicommunal federation, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions, and expressed the hope that the appointment of the UN Secretary General's personal envoy would lead to the resumption of negotiations from the point where they were suspended in Crans Montana.
Cypriot MPs stressed the importance of reaching a solution to the Cyprus problem as soon as possible, as time is running out at the expense of the Cypriot people as a whole. They stressed that the Turkish side's claim of a "two-state" solution would never be accepted as this would legitimise the achievements of the Turkish invasion and continued occupation.
The meeting was attended by MPs Mr. Averof Neophytou (leader), Mr. Stefanos Stefanou and Mrs. Alexandra Attalidou.
